# What is Caviar?
Caviar refers to salted sturgeon roe. While the term is often used to describe the salted roe of other fish (salmon, lumpfish, etc.), this is NOT true caviar. The only authentic caviar comes from one of the 27 species of sturgeon that make up the Acipenseridae family (Codex Alimentarius – FAO).
# How do I serve it?
The ideal way to serve caviar is directly in its original tin. Place the tin on crushed ice and open it just a few minutes before enjoying. It is best served with spoons made of mother-of-pearl, bone, wood, or plastic. Silver or metal spoons may react with the caviar, altering its flavor.
# How much caviar should I serve per person?
This depends on whether you will be enjoying the caviar on its own or as an ingredient in a dish. Our recommended portion is 30 grams per person if enjoyed on its own or 15 grams if it will be used as an ingredient.
# ¿What should I pair with caviar?
We offer caviar of the highest quality, so we recommend enjoying it on its own to fully appreciate all the complex flavor notes.
However, if the occasion calls for a more elaborate dish, we suggest the following ingredients:
Traditional: Blinis with crème fraîche and caviar.
Potatoes: Our caviar pairs perfectly with this ingredient in any form!
Eggs: Scrambled, fried, or soft-boiled.
Preferably, high-quality caviar should be paired with subtle ingredients and soft textures that don’t distract the senses, allowing the full development of its flavor on the palate.
# What beverages pair well with caviar?
Traditionally, caviar is enjoyed with champagne, sparkling wine, or vodka. Dry white wines or sake are also excellent options to accompany this ancient delicacy. However, don’t hesitate to try it with other beverages you enjoy, as ultimately, the most important thing is to find the perfect combination for you!
# How do I store caviar?
Caviar is a fresh and delicate product that requires proper storage to avoid spoilage. Always place your tin in the coldest part of the refrigerator — never in the freezer! The ideal temperature is between -4 and +4 °C (25–39 °F). If your caviar tin is vacuum-sealed and stored correctly, it can be kept for several months (check the expiration date on the label). Once opened, it should be consumed within 48 hours.
